Jonathan Van Ness On His Skincare Routine and the Weirdest Thing in His Instagram Saved Folder
Earlier this year I was introduced to clean skincare brand, Biossance, a beauty brand known for its innovative biotechnology, effective skincare products (they contain clean, active ingredients), and its highly regarded stance on education and sustainability. And of course, a brand that stands for so much would have an equally amazing ambassador . . . Jonathan Van Ness, who's here to help them educate us all on good skin.
POPSUGAR Australia sat down with the beauty guru and Biossance Ambassador himself to quiz him about his skincare rituals, the importance of self-care and the weirdest thing in his Instagram saved folder. Scroll!
POPSUGAR Australia: Can you walk us through your night time skin care routine?
Jonathan Van Ness: I have a consistent evening skincare routine, it always starts with cleansing! When I step out of the shower, I add my Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream, then the Biossance Squalane + 10% vegan Lactic Acid Resurfacing Serum, which leaves my skin all glowing in the morning when I wake up. Finally, I always add a good layer of the Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Moisturiser as it gives my skin needed hydration while I'm sleeping. And sleep is a non-negotiable, I need seven to eight hours a night.
PS: What's an unusual beauty hack you use on the reg?
JVN: Use a drop of the Biossance 100 % Squalane Oil to wake up your lipsticks or pencils or creams that have gone dry, and this will allow you to get a full extended life out of your products.
PS: Can you talk us through your self-care routine?
JVN: My self-care routine is really about maintaining balance as much as possible. Balancing work time, self-care time, active time is what it's all about. My self-care can consist of therapy, yoga, activities I find joy in, like gymnastics now, but were slower to start at first. There's always a path to finding your journey to self-care and healing.
PS: How has your beauty routine evolved over time?
JVN: My beauty routine has evolved with me in the sense I've always had some version of one, I think what's evolved the most is who I'm doing it for. I used to try to present how I thought others wanted me to growing up, now I do it for me.
PS: Beauty is often so tied to our identities, what's your one piece of advice for someone who's looking to use beauty as a way to boost their confidence and carve out their own identity in this world?
JVN: If you're someone who hasn't been able to tap into beauty or fashion as a way to express yourself, my advice is, it's never too late to start!
PS: What's the weirdest thing you have in your saved folder on Instagram?
JVN: Weirdest thing I have in my saved folder on my Insta is these friends of mine having a high kicking contest and one of them falls, it's hysterical.
