Real Housewife Karen Huger on What Inspired Her to Launch a Wig Collection

Sometimes celebrities cross over into the beauty biz with products that just . . . make sense. It happened with both Jennifer Lopez and Pharrell Williams‘s ventures into skin care this year, and Karen Huger was close to follow with her development of an all-new wig collection. The Real Housewives of Potomac star was catapulted to meme status during an earlier season of the reality show after her wig shifted in the middle of an outing with her castmates. Her wigs have evolved a lot since then, but the moment still sparked an idea – a few years later, the La’Dame by Karen Huger x RPGShow collection was born.

“It wasn’t my first time that happened,” she told POPSUGAR. According to Huger, she’d already been looking to create her own wig line when hair brand RPGShow approached her with an idea to collaborate on a collection of wigs. Huger worked with her longtime hairstylist, Steven Thomas, to bring it to life this year. “I was so excited to have the chance to create wigs that fit and felt wonderful,” she said.

The collection – which gets its name from Huger’s moniker, the Grande Dame of Potomac – features six styles: Victoria, a bone-straight look; Lisa, a wavy lob; Rachael, a pixie cut; Brooke, a wet and wavy curled look; Gina with beachy waves; and Chanel, a blunt bob with bangs. Each one is available in black, brown, dark brown, and platinum blond and priced between $400 to $550. “I love all of the wigs in my collection,” Huger said. “If I had to choose my absolute favorite, it would be Victoria. She has the bandwidth to move from the boardroom to date night with ease, by far she is the most versatile wig in the La’Dame wig collection.”

This, of course, isn’t the Grande Dame’s first foray into beauty. Last year, she officially launched a fragrance of the same name, and it’s now available for purchase on Bloomingdales.com and HSN. The success of La’Dame and her personal evolution is what inspired the timing of her collaboration with RPGShow.

“My personal journey with life and loss has taught me a valuable lesson,” Huger said. “You only get one chance – reach high and execute well. As I look inward and as I continue to move forward each and every day, I do my best to help myself and others be their best selves and when you have a good hair day, well . . . it starts everything off on a good note.”
