My immediate thought? If “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” was released in 2003, when was Olaplex launched? That is how synonymous Olaplex is with repairing colour or heat damaged hair. Sadly for Andie Anderson, Olaplex wasn’t launched until 2014, 11 years too late for her hair.

How Olaplex Works

Olaplex uses a combination of ceramides, oils, and amino acids to seal rough cuticles. It also uses a patented “bond-building” ingredient: bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate which mends the broken bond in hair that lead to breakage and dullness.

Light bounces off smooth surfaces and is absorbed by rough ones. This applies to hair, and it’s why when your hair is feeling dry and brittle, your colour looks flat too.

Any number of things can cause disulfied bonds in your hair. The most common is heat styling and chemical treatments like bleaching and perming.
