Use a Mini or Travel-Sized Hair Straightener For Waves
Prior to cutting my hair, when it was still at shoulder length, I used a regular-sized straightener to add waves. Now I use a travel-sized one because I find it easier to create more casual waves. It also means you can vary the size of the curls a little more so the finished look isn't too polished. Of course, a normal straightener or curling wand is more than good enough if you don't have travel-sized one. I use the Cloud Nine Micro Iron ($114).
