I'm not a teenager any more, so why am I dealing with wrinkles and breakouts?
It's a myth that you can't have both pimples and wrinkles! Unfortunately, adult acne has the habit of catching us off-guard, but like any breakout, it's caused by a variety of factors; including hormones, inflammation, and sensitivities. The most successful way to treat acne adult is to first narrow down what factor is causing the breakouts, then work to treat the specific cause. This could be anything from food sensitivities, to hormonal changes.
Should I be using a manual, or chemical exfoliant if I have breakouts?
According to Noreen, there is a place for both in your routine. "You can use both, we have a Pumpkin Enzyme Mask that exfoliates in three ways. It has enzyme exfoliation, physical exfoliation, as well as a chemical exfoliator." If you do have open pimples or sores, or you are particularly sensitive, you should avoid using anything too harsh or abrasive. "The biggest mistake that people can make when they have acne is to treat it really aggressively, but you have to be really careful."
My breakout-prone skin has made me scared of moisturiser, is this bad?
It can be really hard for acne sufferers to bring themselves to moisturise. "It's really hard to convince them to put something oily on their faces when they think that's the problem, but you do need it," Noreen says. If you're applying a lot of acne products, you are undoubtedly drying out your skin, so it's really important that you replace this moisture. Noreen suggests using a light-weight formula rich in hyaluronic acid. A product like this will deliver the hydration you need, but won't feel greasy or thick like any old-school cream.
