Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to the Met Gala red carpet. And with each passing year, she ups the ante, interpreting the theme in new ways while staying true to her personal style. For the 2023 Met Gala, guests were tasked with paying homage to Karl Lagerfeld, the celebrated yet controversial designer who helmed Chanel, Fendi, and his eponymous line for several decades. The dress code gave them several options for reinterpretation, from dressing as Lagerfeld himself to wearing archival designs from any of the aforementioned brands. Lopez wore a Ralph Lauren dress inspired by his work, stepping out in a gown with a dramatic open-front and open-back silhouette.

Working with acclaimed stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, Lopez wore a custom Ralph Lauren black gown with a lengthy train and a fitted pink skirt. Underneath a mysterious black veil, her hair was pulled back tightly and she went with a minimal makeup look. She brought her look together with a simple clutch, black platform sandals, and stud earrings.

Lopez’s 2023 Met Gala outfit fell right in line with her looks for previous years. In 2021, she nodded to the Americana theme in a cowboy-inspired, high-slit dress designed by Ralph Lauren. She nailed the 2018 Met Gala theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” in a Balmain gown with an embellished cross on the bodice and a cutout neckline. And back in 2010, she was the picture of elegance in a glittering Zuhair Murad dress for the “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” theme.
