  • Playing with different liner techniques is an easy way to change your makeup look.
  • Graphic eyeliner has been a huge makeup trend in recent years.
  • From “reverse” eyeliner to LED liner, you have so many options.

A quick scroll on Instagram, a peek at the recent New York Fashion Week shows, or a look at the latest award show this season will tell you one thing: graphic eyeliner is very in right now. It has been for the last few years, but the pros are constantly thinking of new ways to reimagine the eye-makeup look.

The real beauty of graphic eyeliner is in its simplicity. Many looks only involve a single product, and yet they push boundaries and step outside of the box. You also can’t beat the versatility. From the color you choose (black is always a classic, but neon eyeliner is a great way to make a statement) to the shape you draw and even how you apply it – all of these things can help you create a graphic-liner look that’s truly mesmerizing.

“Recent makeup trends have been all about bold and dramatic eyes with a natural face,” Jillian Dempsey, celebrity makeup artist and founder of Jillian Dempsey Beauty, previously told POPSUGAR. Celebrity makeup artist and Deck of Scarlet brand partner Etienne Ortega adds: “For those people that don’t want to use eyeshadow in their everyday routine, eyeliner is a great way to elevate the look, without distracting from the overall vibe.”

When deciding on your graphic-liner look, know you have options – and plenty of them. “Floating” eyeliner, as seen before on Lucy Boynton and Dove Cameron, is perfect for a minimalist. Meanwhile, TikTok’s viral “LED”-eyeliner trend is a great way to add color to your look. If your style is more natural, you can elevate your standard winged liner and make it look more graphic by trying “fishtail” eyeliner. Another celebrity-loved option is “underliner,” which is all about accentuating your bottom lash line with color. Then there’s also crystal liner, “reverse” eyeliner, and many, many more. The point is: in many cases, graphic eyeliner has replaced eyeshadow as the preferred way to make your eyes pop.
