Makeup Artist Tips: How to Achieve the Bold Lips, Bare Skin Look From Bondi Born’s AAFW Show

Australian brand Bondi Born showed its Resort ’22 Collection at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney on May 31 for Afterpay Australian Fashion Week. With the Harbour Bridge and Opera House playing backdrop to the captivating runway show, attendees watched on as models revealed a number of classic designs created in shades of yellow and pink.

For the beauty looks, Bondi Born partnered with Clarins to create the ultimate summer-ready faces. The skin was kept fresh and bare while the lips did all the talking with bold pops of colour including reds, pinks and corals. The hair was pulled back into tight buns, allowing the clothing and makeup to shine.

Anne Salem, the head of makeup at Clarins, has detailed just how these fresh-faced looks were achieved. To start, the skin of each model was prepped with the SOS Primer ($50) to hydrate and amp up the glow, while achieving a matte finish. “The SOS Primer helps to catch the light,” Salem said.

Next up was the Everlasting Youth Fluid ($66), which “was used to enhance each of the girls’ beautiful skin, keeping the look bare-faced,” said Salem. This foundation provides medium coverage and helps blur texture, while optimising your own skin’s luminosity and radiance.

The showstopper of the whole look was the bright pops of colour on the lips, thanks to the Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet ($40) in the shades Hot Pink and Spicy Chilli. To achieve the matte lip look, apply the lipstick “to the lip, taking the colour to the edge of the line,” said Salem. “Slowly press the lip line to blur the edge to create the soft look.”

The look was finished with the Double Fix Mascara, which was brushed through the brows only to help volumise the hairs. That’s a total of five products used to create the incredibly simple but powerful look seen at the Bondi Born show. It’s that easy!
