Farrah Fawcett, star of the original Charlie’s Angels TV series, is a style icon. Fawcett’s shag hairstyle, which the late actor rocked in the ’70s, has recently experienced a resurgence largely thanks to TikTok. The flicky style complete with curtain bangs is a hot trend that doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

In fact, a quick look on Instagram shows that the hashtag #farrahfawcetthair has nearly 15,000 posts, coupled with a plethora of TikTok videos recreating the look. But it isn’t just users on social media who have flocked to the flip-style, with celebrities like Brie Larson and Lizzo also hopping on the trend.

While you might not want to commit to the shag haircut in its entirety, you can recreate the look with a few easy steps. If you are thinking about channelling more of the ’70s vibe with your hair, the easiest way to do this is by cutting in some curtain bangs.

The layered fringe creates a relaxed, lived-in look and can be styled to create the Fawcett-inspired flip. If you’re not ready to commit to bangs, those with shorter face-framing layers are still able to rock the flip-style with little trouble.

To do this, you’ll need a small round brush, and a hairdryer or a curler. If using the hairdryer, curl your hair around the brush and blowdry the hair away from your face to create a flick. Set with hairspray when you’re finished. If using a curling wand, grab your fringe or hair at the front and wrap around the curling wand, making sure to curl away from your face.

Finish by blasting your hair with the hairdryer and use your fingers to fluff your locks at the roots. A spritz of dry shampoo in the roots at the front will also help create volume in the look. If you’re in need of a visual aid, there are heaps of TikTok and YouTube tutorial videos that can also take you through the look.
