3 Women With Different Hair Types Tried PUMP Haircare — Here’s What They Had to Say

Trying to find the right haircare products to give you the results you’re after can sometimes leave you feeling like Goldilocks.

What might be the right combination of shampoo, conditioner and other products for someone else’s hair type might not necessarily be right for you in your hunt to find the products that are, well, just right.

While we all love a good product recommendation, it’s also worth keeping in mind that what might work for a friend or colleague might not necessarily give you the same results.  And there’s nothing quite as disappointing as spending your hard-earned cash on a product to try it out, only to find it doesn’t live up to the hype.

That’s where PUMP Haircare’s Help Me Choose personalised test steps in. It does exactly what the label says by helping you choose the right combination of haircare products to give you the hair you’re after without the tricky guess work.

All you have to do is provide some details including your hair type, texture, your main concerns, your hair ‘goals’ and a photo of your hair to the experts at PUMP and they will come back with individually tailored recommendations to give you the hair of your dreams. No more guess work, just truly excellent hair. Cool right?

So to really put PUMP Haircare to the test, POPSUGAR Australia’s team tried the products recommended for their different hair types out for themselves. Here’s what they had to say:

Valentina Todoroska – Managing Editor

Hair type: Fine and oily

“When I find a product that works for me, I stick to it like glue, which is the reason I can sometimes fall into a product rut. So while my current regime definitely works and does the job, I was keen to give the PUMP Haircare recommendations a go and to see if the products personally recommended for my hair type could improve its quality.

“My hair texture is fine, naturally wavy and does have some body to it, but my scalp become oily quickly, making my roots look limp and flat by day two or three. For this reason, I was recommended the PUMP Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner as well as the Volume Powder for the roots.

“To help with the oily roots, it was suggested I use the Scalp Therapy Shampoo which is a little more clarifying once a week as well as a Shampoo Brush to help evenly distribute the shampoo and agitate the hair follicles for a deeper cleanse.

“I typically only wash my hair once a week, wearing it out for a couple of days then tying it up for the rest of the week. Using the Scalp Therapy Shampoo with the Shampoo Brush made my hair feel extra clean but not streaky and meant I could wear my hair out for an extra day, a win in my books.

“I followed this up with the Thickening Shampoo which contains saw palmetto, rice protein and gotu kola extract, known for thickening the hair. I shampooed twice and only on the roots, followed by the Thickening Conditioner on the lengths of my hair. I like that the conditioner didn’t feel heavy or weigh my hair down. It also has silica in it which is known to expand the strands.

“After drying I noticed my hair had immediate lift at the roots and no longer felt like it was sticking to my face after a few days. When I felt it could do with a bit more volume, I used the Volume Powder at the roots and styled it using my fingertips. It’s easy to throw in your bag and as well as giving my hair a bit of a perk up, it absorbed oils from my scalp too so helped to get a little longer out of my washes.”

Hair type: Thick and frizzy

“There was a point in time when I could say that I had tried every anti-frizz hair product that was on the market. After years of trial and error, I never really found a product line that worked for my hair type, which is coarse, thick, frizzy and at times, downright unruly.

“So when I had the chance to try out a brand that gives you personalised recommendations based on your hair, I jumped at it. After completing the Help Me Choose personalisation test, I was prescribed a regimen that included the Anti Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner as well as the Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner, which I alternate between, swapping every second wash.

“Once a week, I’ve also been using the Anti Frizz Gloss Mask, to add hydration and shine back into my hair. After a few weeks following this hair prescription, I’ve been left with some seriously shiny and healthy-looking locks.

“The Anti Frizz products work by flattening the hair cuticle to prevent water from entering and making it frizzy. As a result, I’ve experienced a huge reduction in the fluffy flyaways that I usually have, even when I heat style my hair.

“Adding in the 300° Heat Protection Spray while styling my hair has also helped protect it from damage and leaves it feeling glossy and soft. The reduction in frizz also means I’ve been able to heat style my hair less, as I’m no longer relying on my straightener to mask the frizz.”

Hair type: Thick and oily scalp with dry ends

“I have thick hair. I’ve always had thick hair and it’s a blessing and a curse sometimes. Since I was in high school, I’ve had the problem of an oily scalp but dry ends. I tried all different kinds of shampoo, from vegan to ones filled with chemicals. For a while, I would rub fresh aloe vera in my hair from my mum’s garden and it worked, but it never lasted.

“When I came across PUMP Haircare, I had to fill out a questionnaire to determine which products would be right for me. The expert team got back to me within 24 hours and had a list of products I could use including their Shampoo Brush. I’ve never heard of a shampoo brush before, but if you have an oily scalp like mine, I suggest you get yourself one. It removes all the build-up in your hair and it’s a great massage for your scalp.

“For my oily roots, a Scalp Therapy Shampoo with apple cider vinegar was suggested, which has done wonders for my hair routine. Now, I wash my hair every third or fourth day, rather than an everyday or second day — yes, that’s how greasy my hair got overnight.

“For my dry ends, I’ve been using the Repair Conditioner, which has quenched my parched ends, and the Anti Frizz Gloss Mask, once a week, which adds that extra shine to my hair. I also spritz my hair with the Mermaid Lengths Spray for extra strength when styling my hair.

“All in all, after spending what would be thousands of dollars over the past several years to find a solution to my hair, I’m quite happy to spend my money at PUMP Haircare from now on.”
