2013 Brownlow Medal: Gary Ablett Wins as AFL WAGs Hit the Red Carpet
The leading men of AFL got all dressed up for the 2013 Brownlow Medal at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne last night. While they all scrubbed up nicely, the cameras flocked to their stunning wives and girlfriends on the media wall, with AFL WAGs bringing colourful glamour to the red carpet. Rebecca Judd led the way in a dramatic red J’Aton creation that just showed off her baby bump — she’s expecting her second child with husband Chris Judd — and Melbourne blogger Nadia Coppolino, fiancée of Jimmy Bartel, was one of the many ladies to wear a dress with sheer panelling. Brynne Edelsten attended with her husband Geoffrey, but she went for a more understated look than usual at the event.
The man of the night was Gold Coast Football Club captain Gary Ablett Jr., who won his second Brownlow Medal, which is AFL’s most prestigious individual award. (He previously won when he played for Geelong.) Gary won by just one point ahead of Geelong captain Joel Selwood, and acknowledged his former teammate in his acceptance speech when he said, “I was actually shattered when I got the three [votes in the final round] — because Joel deserves to be up here just as much as I do. He’s a very good friend and a fantastic leader.”
