G'Day USA! Aussie Stars Party Together Before the Globes
How do you say, “G’Day USA”? Geoffrey Rush tried to teach VIP guests the correct pronunciation at Saturday night’s G’Day USA black-tie gala in LA, where he was honoured with his Excellence in the Arts award and had it presented to him by good friend and awards season favourite Cate Blanchett. The actors, two of our country’s — and the world’s — best, led the pack of expats who had gathered at the JW Marriott Hotel for the event, now running in its eleventh year. Geoffrey was one of three honorees on the night; Jacki Weaver was presented with the Excellence in Film award by Mel Gibson, and Curtis Stone received the first Excellence in the Culinary Arts award.
When Naomi Watts walked the red carpet, she told media that she loved events like these because “it’s really just a great night to see friends and catch up.” Delta Goodrem, glamorous in a leggy Bianca Spender dress, said her house in LA was nicknamed “house of Oz” in reference to all the Aussie friends she has over. Other stars who attended include Simon Baker, Jessica Gomes and Qantas ambassador John Travolta, while Tina Arena and Timomatic performed for guests during the event.
