Wipe Your Grubby Stilettos at the Door Because The Oscars Red Carpet Is Now Champagne Coloured

It’s a well-known fact that Hollywood gets into a tizz in the lead-up to the Oscars, with stars checking in for facials, stylist fittings, and making sure their Ozempic is fully topped up (for legal reasons the last one is a joke). But there’s another gal in town who is getting a makeover and it’s none other than the red carpet.

As the celebs hit the 95th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, eagle-eyed viewers have noticed a big change to the carpet underfoot – she’s now champagne-coloured, darling. How fancy.

In an interview with the Associated Press, creative consultant Lisa Love (The Hills hive rise up!) said the decision to switch up the iconic red carpet to a softer hue simply came from wanting to try something different for the first time since 1961.

“This is just a lightness and hopefully people like it,” she said. “It doesn’t mean that it’s always going to be a champagne-coloured carpet.”

And after an evening of dirty hoofs traipsing all over the light carpet, they might soon be rethinking the change. Is anyone else getting flashbacks to accidentally standing in dog poo and scuffing it through the family living room? Just me? Cool.

So, how are organisers going to combat any dirty marks showing up during the broadcast? According to Variety, any unsightly patches will be literally cut out and replaced with new carpet. Seems highly laborious, but you do you, boo!

But it seems everyone is looking for a bit of a lighter energy after last year’s controversial broadcast moment between Chris Rock and Will Smith – lest we forget the slap heard ‘round the world. In fact, Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel addressed the media last week at the unveiling of the new look carpet and said, “I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet over a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed.”

So there you have it, everyone is moving on in 2023 with a bold new Oscars carpet and the confidence to match it.
