Puberty Blues was originally an Australian novel, published in 1979, co-written by Kathy Lette and Gabrielle Carey. It’s about two 13-year-old girls, Debbie and Sue, growing up in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney and trying to get into the popular “Greenhill gang” of surfers. The novel caused a stir because it included issues such as miscarriage, abortion, drug use and rape.
