Animal Kingdom leads the(AFI) Australian Film Institute Awards with 18 nominations

Animal Kingdom Earns 18 Australian Film Institute Nominations

Melbourne crime drama Animal Kingdom <banimal></banimal><banimal></banimal><banimal></banimal><banimal></banimal>led the pack today with 18 Australian Film Institute nominations. War drama Beneath Hill 60 <bbeneath></bbeneath><bbeneath></bbeneath><bbeneath></bbeneath><bbeneath></bbeneath>received 12 noms, Jane Campion’s Bright Star earned 11, Tomorrow When the War Began earned eight and indigenous musical Bran Nu Dae and The Tree each scored seven. Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett was on hand to announce some nominees, which also included best lead actresses Jacki Weaver, Abbie Cornish, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Morgana Davies. Jacki (pictured) is a favourite to win and has been receiving Oscar buzz for her peformance in Animal Kingdom. Best lead actor nods went to Ben Mendelsohn, James Frecheville, Brendan Cowell and Clive Owen. In the television categories, Ten’s telemovie Hawke earned six nominations and TV shows Tangle, The Circuit, Rush and Offspring also being recognised. In the light entertainment fare category, MasterChef will battle it out with The Gruen Transfer, Hungry Beast and Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation. The AFI Awards will be held in Melbourne on December 10 and 11. Click here for the full list of nominees.
