Ariana Grande basically used the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards to kick off her highly anticipated Sweetener world tour, which begins March 18. Following an introduction by Pharrell Williams, Grande — who also won the award for female artist of the year — "performed" her Thank U, Next song "Needy." Being that she's days away from starting her tour, however, the low-key performance was prerecorded for the show.
The pseudo appearance actually comes about a month after Grande canceled her Grammys performance and skipped the show, following a disagreement with producers over which song she would perform. "It's about collaboration. it's about feeling supported. it's about art and honesty. not politics," Grande tweeted at the time. In an interesting turn of events, Grande would go on to win her first Grammy the day of the show for best pop vocal album.
While it would've been incredible to see Ariana perform live, fans will have nearly 100 opportunities to do so as she tours the world. In the meantime, check out the performance clip, as well as Williams's introduction, ahead.
