The Block Glasshouse's First Room Reveals!
You've met the new crop of beautiful and talented contestants (where do they find these people?!) and you've said g'day to Scott Cam once again. You've welcomed scary-but-really-a-softie foreman Keith back into your lives and you're more than ready for all the blood, sweat and tears that comes with each season of The Block.
On Sunday we saw the first fruits of the teams' labour and it was the first time we could really assess what kind of renovators we have on our hands with The Block Glasshouse. Making over the first bedrooms in the place — the guest bedrooms — brothers Shannon and Simon (who constantly seem delightfully mischievous) were the surprise of the week, blowing everyone away with their tasteful styling and well thought-out storage plans. They just trumped high-scorers Darren and Deanne and Carlene and Michael, while Western Sydney team Chris and Jenna lost points due to their lack of styling and execution.
The most awkward moment of the night was coming to Karsten and Maxine's room: the genetically-blessed couple lucked-out with a cabinet maker who went AWOL at the last minute, leaving a big, unpainted hole where their cupboard was supposed to be. They tried to make amends with an explanatory note on the wall, but judges Darren Palmer, Shaynna Blaze and Neale Whittaker gave them no love for the slip-up.
The result? Super-low scores for the otherwise-impressive couple, and the prompt firing of the cabinet maker, who did eventually turn up. He cried on national TV and Karsten looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him whole. Luckily Maxine stuck to her guns and saw the tense moment through — we all know there's no time for unreliability in this game; the prize money is often all that gets teams through to the end.
One reveal down, many more to come — keep scrolling to see the guest bedrooms in their (mostly) finished glory.
