Brenton Thwaites Is Already Living the Hollywood Dream
Brenton Thwaites has a profile in Australia thanks to starring roles on shows like SLiDE and Home and Away, but his star is on the rise in Hollywood after being cast as Prince Phillip in Maleficent — yes, that's opposite Angelina Jolie — and landing the lead role in The Giver, a popular YA book Jeff Bridges has been trying to bring to life on the big screen for years.
Brenton, 25, stars as Jonas, a boy graduating from childhood to adulthood who is assigned the important role of being the new Receiver of Memories. This means he will receive important memories of what the world was like being it became the seemingly perfect utopian society he lives in from the Giver, who passes on his wisdom. But it isn't an easy role, and Jonas quickly realises that the world he's living in isn't perfect at all.
For the past few weeks Brenton has been doing press for The Giver in the US but for the most part of this year he's been based in Australia working on Gods of Egypt and Son of a Gun. Brenton visited the POPSUGAR Australia offices last week to promote his latest project, which arrives in cinemas on Sept. 11. Keep reading to find out how he got involved and what it was like to work with Hollywood legends like Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep so early in his career.
