This year's Bride and Prejudice has been full to the brim of memorable (for both the right and wrong reasons) characters, but no family tugs at the heartstrings more than Ange and her dad, John. Although the now 23-year-old Ange came out as gay as a teenager, John had never been able to accept her sexuality. Instead, he insisted it was a phase, made excuses, and refused to recognise that sexuality is not a choice. When Ange entered into her relationship with Dylan things became even more intense between the pair, with the deeply religious John insisting he'd be "damning her to hell" if he allowed her to marry a woman. All hope seemed almost lost when, the day before the wedding, John said he couldn't stop thinking about how homosexuality is "not the way God designed us."
But, in what can only be described as a miracle, John ultimately was able to put his love for Ange above his personal beliefs. "I promised my wife that I would be there for the children at all times, and I'm glad to be supportive to Angela for the choices she's making," he said. "I just want you to know that I accept what you're doing here today, and the person that you are," he added, at last saying the magic word Ange had longed to hear- 'accept'. The two embraced and I don't think it's an exaggeration to call it the most wholesome TV moment of the year. We can only hope he can continue to accept Ange just as she is, now and forever.
