Her fellow competitors had tipped her to make the top five of this year’s MasterChef, but the dream of winning the cooking show came to an end for Cleo Kerameas last night when she was eliminated after a pastry skills test. It wasn’t that Cleo’s cooking wasn’t up to scratch; what sent her home was a small breach of instructions. The contestants of the Blue Team, who lost Wednesday night’s Cronulla Beach challenge, had to show their pastry skills by making a sponge, custard, toffee and ganache, working on each component separately before assembling them into one dessert of their choice.
The rule was that they couldn’t start work on one component until they’d finished another, but Cleo unfortunately had her ganache and toffee going at the same time. When it came to the tasting, the judges would only accept her sponge and custard. Cleo says the “high anxiety of the challenge” caused her to suffer a “total brain snap,” and that she should’ve been able to follow instructions given her day job as an executive assistant. Did Cleo deserve to be eliminated for such a small mistake? Vote and let us know in the comments!
