Channel Seven hit a home run last night with the premiere of Downton Abbey. You may have noticed a huge ad campaign leading up to the first episode, with saucy and salacious commercials set to Ke$ha’s “Blow,” and personalities ranging from boxer Danny Green to My Kitchen Rules contestants Daniela and Stefania raving about the series. And it seems like all the effort culminated in a Sunday night ratings win for Seven, with more than 1.8 million Aussies tuning in to watch the Crawley family’s dramas after the sinking of the Titanic. (It also probably helped that it aired after the high-rating Dancing With the Stars.) With a stellar cast led by Dame Maggie Smith and juicy storylines, the show probably could’ve sold itself to a massive audience, but a little extra spruiking never hurt anyone. Did it work for you? Were you one of the 1.8 million watching last night? (And if so, tell us what you thought!)
