Frankie Shaw on the Changing Face of Hollywood — and Being Best Friends With Her Ex
With her face emblazoned across billboards around the globe, a hit show of which she is the creator and star, and two Golden Globes nominations, you could say Frankie Shaw is having A Moment. And having just chatted with her on the phone for an extended period of time, we feel uniquely qualified to say it's not a minute too soon.
If you don't? You'll want to get onto that. See, Frankie may be new to our screens but she's already weaved a formidable path in the entertainment industry. After the show had been on air for just six weeks Frankie was recognised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, scooping Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress, TV Musical or Comedy, and Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy.
It's an incredible feat and it's not lost on the 31-year-old, who until recently was probably best known for her work in independent films and the TV show Mr. Robot. "I was not expecting it, especially because we've only aired six episodes — although we did get the Hollywood Foreign Press all the episodes on DVDs," Frankie says of the nominations. "We're a brand new show! I was on a call at a radio station . . . I was in L.A. but calling in to Boston, having an interview early in the morning. I had all these people in my house and didn't want to wake them up so I was standing in the driveway when everyone started calling me. It was such a surprise! It's really amazing — my Showtime executive, Amy, was just sobbing on the phone."
