George Clooney's Hope For Haiti Now Telethon Breaks Record; $US58m and Counting
Saturday's celebrity telethon Hope for Haiti Now has broken the record for a disaster relief telethon, so far raising more than $US58 million. Money raised from the two hour long charity event—which featured A-list names like Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson (plus beard), Matt Damon, as well as performances by Bono, Keith Urban and Madonna—will be split among Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation and the Clinton-Bush Haiti Foundation. Meanwhile, the Hope for Haiti Now album, which features performances from the night, is now the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history. Of course it's not too late to contribute—donations will remain open for the next six months.
