Baz Luhrmann admitted that a wild party scene (which he called "the orgy scene") between Isla Fisher, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, and a group of other characters needed a bit of hip-hop to get things going. He said, "We were about 20 minutes away from wrapping and we still hadn't gotten that kind of wild party feel. The idea of having a wild party was inspired by a book that Leo's father gave me called The Wild Party. We wanted to go there, but we weren't quite sure how to. So I got all these props and things. I said, 'We have 20 minutes left: let's turn all the cameras on and go for it.'" Baz stopped himself to ask Isla and Tobey to interject if he started "expanding on the truth too much," to which Tobey interjected, "I'm married with children. Don't go too far." However, Baz revealed that in the middle of the scene he turned off the jazz music that had been playing and started to blast Jay-Z and Kanye West's "N*gg*s in Paris." Apparently that was just what the cast needed to create a hectic, debauched party scene.
