It's Earth Month and every week we'll be taking a look at celebs who walk the walk when it comes to going green. In Hollywood, our very own Isabel Lucas is leading the charge when it comes to eco consciousness. The Aussie actress joined forces with Jessica Biel and rapper Lupe Fiasco in February to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness regarding the lack of clean drinking water globally. Whether it’s saving dolphins, whales or the coral reefs, Isabel has always put the environment at the top of her priority list. Here's why we think she’s especially eco chic.
On her work with the Protect our Coral Sea campaign: I remember visiting the reefs off the coast of Queensland when I was 10 and going snorkelling for the first time. It was so colourful and completely unique. It’s essential that we protect it because it’s so pristine.
On being a vegetarian: (Isabel gave up meat after watching the documentary Earthlings at the home of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman and strict vegan Anthony Kiedis.) I don’t feel limited by not eating meat. I eat lots of vegies and pasta and nuts, tofu and soups.”
On climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro: It was the most challenging thing, physically, that I've done. All of us got altitude sickness or felt the effects of it, whether it was nausea or headaches or loss of consciousness, even—19,341 feet is really high...I actually didn't feel the effects until we were on the summit and then when we were descending, I got quite sick.
On growing up green: Looking after the environment and doing things in nature was really an integral part of my life growing up. I love the environment and I want to be able to protect it.”
