Joel Madden Chooses Prinnie Stevens Over Mahalia Barnes in The Voice Battle Round

Did Joel Madden Make the Right Decision on The Voice's First Battle Round?

Even without their strong friendship and shared history, the battle performance between Mahalia Barnes and Prinnie Stevens on The Voice last night was definitely the most compelling of the showdowns. The two big-voiced girls were pitted against each other by coach Joel Madden to sing Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” in the battle ring, which forced them to temporarily put aside their sisterhood. When it came to the actual performance, both girls tore the song up but had different strong points — according to the other coaches, Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem and Seal, Mahalia had the voice but Prinnie owned the song performance-wise. Joel couldn’t make the decision on his own and needed to consult his mentor, twin brother Benji, who backed Mahalia. In the end, Joel said he needed to stick with his gut and make the call based on who rocked the overall performance — in his mind it was Prinnie, which knocked Mahalia out of the competition. Do you think Joel made the right decision?
