Karl Stefanovic's Bad Dalai Lama Joke Goes Global

We already knew that Karl Stefanovic is among the most popular personalities on Australian TV — he has this year’s Gold Logie to prove it — but it seems that his international profile has jumped dramatically thanks to a little joke he told the Dalai Lama last week. After interviewing the Buddhist leader for Today last week, Karl attempted to bring some humour with a joke he says was suggested by his son. You’ve probably heard the punch line by now: “So the Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop . . . and says, ‘Can you make me one with everything?’” Karl had to repeat the gag after His Holiness reacted with, “What’s that?” and now the joke has made headlines around the world, with The New York Times, CNN, The Washington Post and more covering the story. At least Karl still has a sense of humour about the whole situation. He tweeted, “Tks for all the carve ups on the dalai gag. Mr Lama will hopefully be inviting me over to his pad in nth India to smoke the peace pipe.”
