Last night we were all anticipating a shock exit from My Kitchen Rules, and it turns out the team that had to pull out were “high achievers” Kelly and Ash Cooke from Victoria. A medical condition forced the couple to leave the competition as Kelly had been losing sight in her right eye over the past few days and was diagnosed with optic neurosis. They were about to face fellow Victorians Kane and Lee in a sudden death cook-off, which was replaced by another cooking challenge that all the remaining contestants participated in.
According to reports, Kelly and Ash are disappointed that they were forced to leave the show. Kelly says, “It wasn’t our choice to leave. We fought all we could to stay on the show and to do the cook-off. We even offered for Ash to do the cook-off by himself if that’s what it took. We wanted to stay in the show no matter what.” She was also worried that viewers would misinterpret their pulling out considering the timing and the upcoming cook-off. The show’s executive producer, Rickie Proost, said, “The health and safety of all our teams is our number one priority. Kelly’s well-being and recovery was our main concern.” Since leaving the show, Kelly has slowly regained vision in her eye, and she and Ash are still working towards their dream of opening a restaurant.
