We can expect a slight shake-up to the judging and mentor panel when The X Factor returns for a second series later this year. Kyle Sandilands, who was in charge of the boys under 25 last year, confirmed on his radio show this morning that he won’t be back in the role. He said, “Ronan [Keating] and Natalie [Imbruglia] do want to go back. I spoke to them last week — both of them rang me because I’ve said that I’m not going back. I’m not doing it. Not because I didn’t like it. I thought the show was great and it was great fun to do but it’s just too hectic, it’s too much work. So, I’ve told Channel Seven, no.”
Kyle had already expressed last year that the show was much more work than he’d anticipated — compared to his judging gig on Australian Idol, the mentor part of the job meant he had to be much more involved with things like workshopping songs, choosing stage lights and all the rest. In light of his recent health problems, and the fact that he’s already doing morning radio as well as judging Australia’s Got Talent, it could be a smart move on Kyle’s part. As for the rest of the judges, Guy Sebastian is the only one who has shown commitment to the second series (get the audition information here). Who do you think could replace Kyle on the panel?
