Meet the Top 24 Contestants on MasterChef 2014

"The food we're seeing this year is extraordinary," Matt Preston told POPSUGAR Australia of the talent on MasterChef 2014, and based on the first three episodes of the series, he's not lying. The beloved cooking show opened this year on Monday with the top 50 amateur cooks around Australia vying for a place in the top 24 by cooking a dish for the judges in a mini audition round. By Tuesday night, the coveted 24 white aprons had been handed out, but at the start of Wednesday night's episode it was revealed that Cecilia Vuong, who wowed the judges with her perfect macarons, had been medically advised to leave the competition because she was still recovering from a brain injury.
Cecilia's departure meant there was one more place to fill, and Matt, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan happily welcomed back 18-year-old student Georgia Hughes, who had just missed out on a spot in the top 24. And then it was straight to business, as the contestants got right into the show's two iconic challenges, the Mystery Box (set by the five previous winners) and Invention Test. Thursday night's episode will also feature an elimination.
Before we say goodbye to a contestant, keep reading to meet this year's top 24.
MasterChef airs Sundays to Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. on Network Ten.
