No one likes being in a pressure test on MasterChef, but when you land in your very first one in Finals Week, it's really not ideal! That was the case for 26-year-old Sara Oteri, who had no prior pressure test experience when she was tasked with recreating a liquid butternut gnocchi with mushroom consommé and roast mushroom truffle cheese toast dish set by Gastro Park's Grant King.
Sara's competitors Jessica Arnott and Reynold Poernomo also struggled with the dish — they all had to re-do their brioche, and in the end Sara and Reynold both left their brioches toasting in the oven — but at the end of the day it was a lack of seasoning and flavour in Sara's liquid butternut gnocchi that led Gary Mehigan to say, "Sara, your first pressure test will also be your last." As a result Sara left the competition, leaving Jessica, Reynold, Billie McKay and Georgia Barnes to cook it out for the title.
We spoke to Sara this morning to talk about reliving her elimination episode, how she dealt with stressful moments on the show, and a surprising fact about the MasterChef house.
