POPSUGAR Australia: What has been your highlight during the competition so far?
Sara Oteri: How much time do you have? Being selected to be on the show, meeting Marco Pierre White, getting to know the judges, meeting Heston [Blumental], the American BBQ challenge, the Circa challenge, making Top 10, the childhood elimination challenge and now being in Finals Week. But above everything else, it’s meeting people who will be friends for life and following my dreams.
PS: What looks easy on TV but is totally different in real life?
Sara: Can I say everything? Honestly, as a viewer last season, I didn’t really appreciate how stressful each challenge is. The crazy time limits, the constant running back and forth to get equipment, managing stress levels, remembering recipes, coming up with ideas and talking to the camera while you cook a dish for the first time.
PS: What has been the most surprising thing about living with so many fellow foodies?
Sara: Obviously how well we all get along, but I’m always surprised at how much more tea and cheese I consume as a result of being in the group.
PS: What have you missed the most from the real world, aside from family and friends?
Sara: Simple things like getting dressed up, googling something, date nights with my boyfriend, yoga classes and typing recipes on a computer as opposed to hand writing everything.
PS: If you win, what are your plans for the money/prize?
Sara: I’m 95 percent practical and five percent completely impractical. I have so many dreams for my future in food so I’ll definitely dedicate time to plan how best my prize money could facilitate those goals. The other five percent of my brain wants to buy a penguin with a bow-tie and a top hat.
PS: Aside from yourself, who would you like to see win, and why?
Sara: Hand on heart; I’d be thrilled to see any of the top five win. Everyone’s dreams are so different and each person is so unique. I truly believe everyone is deserving. However, if I absolutely had to choose, I’d love to see Reynold win. He’s one of the most passionate, focused and disciplined people I’ve met. He’ll go far.
