A few weeks ago MasterChef contestant Mat Beyer made headlines when it was reported that he had been kicked off the show after being found with a smartphone in his possession. Producers apparently thought the 24-year-old IT worker from Melbourne had been using it to access recipes and discovered it during a challenge when all the contestants’ cookbooks were taken from them. Since news of his booting, Mat was reported to be staying at a motel to keep a lid on his eviction, and his dad, Michael, and eliminated contestant Danielle Dixon have come to his defence, saying he was using the phone for personal reasons, not to cheat.

Now The Sunday Telegraph is reporting that there’s a chance Mat could be re-instated on the show, even though an eliminated contestant had been called back to fill his place. The episodes showing his axing are assumed to be airing on TV this week as it occurred before the top eight flew to New York. Whatever the outcome, we’ll definitely be tuning in to see it all unfold!
