MasterChef fans create Facebook hate groups for Joanne Zalm—are they taking things too far?

Pop Poll: MasterChef Contestant Joanne Zalm Receives Death Threats—Are Fans Taking Things Too Far?

Masterchef’s Joanne Zalm is the latest contestant to be put in the public spotlight. The mother-of-two has become the target of an online smear campaign, with Facebook “hate” pages springing up. Hundreds of nasty messages have been posted and she’s even received death threats. One page has nearly 1000 members. So, why is everyone apparently hating on Joanne? The general consensus is because she’s “annoying” and “isn’t a team player”, but some of the attacks have become personal, with people posting comments about her looks, Lebanese heritage, dress sense and cooking style.

Contestant Jonathan Daddia has also received negative comments. Known as The Terminator for his ability to survive challenges, he's been criticised for his seemingly calculating demeanour. This week contestant Claire Winton Burn also found herself the subject of negative Internet buzz after speaking about her affair with a married man. What do you think—are MasterChef fans crossing the line with their nasty comments?
