New reports are coming out of Rome detailing Matthew Newton and Rachael Taylor’s romantic holiday-turned-disaster. In the hours leading up to his alleged violent attack on Rachael in a Rome hotel, the couple spent the afternoon sitting in silence at the Westin Excelsior’s hotel bar downing glasses of wine. Later that evening, a fight in Rachael’s suite spilled over into the lobby, with police and an ambulance responding to an emergency call. According to a waiter at a nearby cafe, the altercation closed down the opulent Via Veneto strip and one hotel staff member claims he saw Matt punch Rachael in the face in the lobby. According to the official police report, “Ambulance officers administered a tranquilliser to calm him because the woman he was with kept saying he had psychological problems.” Rachael refused to press charges at the time, but is currently seeking an AVO against Matt.
