We think it's safe to say we Aussies know how to get around a banger of a tune, but what we were a little less certain of was which exact songs would reign supreme. Well, all our questions have been answered with the release of Spotify's end of year wrap up of what Australians listened to in 2018.
As it turns out, Drake has taken the crown for most-streamed artist of the year within Australia, reclaiming the title from Ed Sheeran after having also won out in 2016. His hit 'God's Plan' was our most-streamed song, which is no surprise given the track was released back in January, allowing it optimum time to get in our ears. The most-streamed album of the year was Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys, while the most-streamed track by an Australian artist was Five Seconds of Summer's 'Youngblood.' 'Youngblood' proved a success not only Down Under but worldwide, placing 24th in the most-streamed tracks globally. 5SOS were also our most-streamed Australian artist overall, followed by Vance Joy and Sia. Our most-streamed female artist globally was none other than Ariana Grande, while locally Sia and Amy Shark were the big-hitters.
Now if you will excuse us, we're going to go listen to Drake on repeat (just for something different).
