Nicole Kidman "In Shock" After Sudden Death of Beloved Father
Australian actress Nicole Kidman is in mourning after the shock death of her father, esteemed psychologist Dr Antony Kidman. The 75-year-old was visiting Nicole's younger sister Antonia in Singapore when he passed suddenly at breakfast yesterday morning. There are mixed reports about how he died, with some saying it happened after a fall and others suggesting he suffered a heart attack during breakfast; Singapore police are currently investigating the incident. Nicole's rep Leslee Dart released a statement to AAP overnight, confirming the tragic news.
"Nicole and her family are in shock by the sudden death of her father. She appreciates the outpouring of support and kindly requests privacy during this very difficult time."
Nicole enjoyed a particularly close relationship with her father, with the pair often seen on the red carpet together hugging and holding hands. Her husband Keith Urban has cancelled his scheduled appearance at a charity concert in the US to fly home to Nashville, where Nicole and their two daughters are based. It's believed the family will now fly to Sydney to grieve with Nicole's mother Janelle, Antonia and the family's 10 grandchildren.
As well as being the father of two well-known women, Dr Kidman was a highly-respected clinical psychologist who worked at Sydney's University of Technology for over half of his lifetime. His devastated colleagues released a statement to Reuters, saying, "It is with great sadness that we learn of Dr Tony Kidman's sudden passing. During his 43 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Tony has contributed greatly — as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner. Tony will be missed by all at UTS. Our thoughts are with his family at this time."
