Don't Give Up on Offspring Just Because Dr. Patrick Reid Died!
Source: Network Ten
The passing of Dr. Patrick Reid on Offspring last August caused fans of the Australian show to go into a period of mourning, with many declaring they would stop watching it. But as Matthew Le Nevez, the actor who portrayed Patrick, told POPSUGAR Australia last year, "You can't just continue to give up the same storylines going into a fifth year. You've got to really challenge the audience and understand that our audience is a smart audience. We wanted to give them a new life in the show, and I think they'll love it. I've already heard whispers of some of the storylines for next year, and I think it might be one of the best seasons we've ever had."
Kat Stewart, who plays Nina Proudman's sister Billie, agrees. She told us at the Logies in April, "I think everyone was so shocked, and rocked, by what happened at the end of last series. I'm really glad for the characters, and for the audience, to have, weirdly, one of the most optimistic series we've done. I think it's got so much to celebrate in it."
The fifth season kicks off six months after Patrick's death, and Nina (Asher Keddie) has settled into a new rhythm of life with her six-month-old baby, Zoe. If you broke up with Offspring because of Patrick's death, we urge you to reconsider, and so does Kat: "For people who were devastated — hang in there."
