When Noni Janur declared she really, really loved bacon on The Bachelor in 2016, we knew this was a girl who spoke our language. Despite being sent home by Richie Strahan in episode nine of the series, the swimwear designer has gone on to further her label and lives by a contagious message of positivity. She's also — ding, ding! — found love of her own, in none other than fellow Bachelorette alum Sam Johnston. Funny how things work out, huh?
In episode six of POPSUGAR Australia's POPCAST, Noni chats exclusively about her time on the hit show, including how her relationship (or lack there-of) with Richie progressed, motivations for signing up for reality TV and the unexpected psychological effects of being on a national platform. "I just wanted to do something different. I love change, I love moving around," Noni said of the spark that led her to sign up for the show. In fact, she'd initially been considering Survivor. "I've never really been in one spot, I've never lived in one spot."
As for finding love on the show, she was refreshingly honest in admitting it wasn't her number one goal , but was certainly open to the prospect. It's tough though, being placed into a bubble where it was all Richie, Richie, Richie, and then some. "Your whole mentality is warped, because this guy stands on this pedestal," she said. "We're taken out of our world, put into this world that's just about this guy. So you start thinking, and you start believing that you do want him."
Despite it not working out on the show, it's slightly ironic she's now happily in a relationship with Sam Johnston, a contestant on Georgia Love's season of The Bachelorette. Their relationship has largely remained out of the limelight — just how she likes it — and it's no mean feat how they're making it work long-distance while Sam follows his acting pursuits in LA. "It was a shock 'cause everyone was like, 'That's weird. That's the most random couple ever.' But no one knows us," she said. "People are always like, 'Oh my god, you and Sam, how are you even with him?' People don't know, so it's very weird to have a relationship that's [somewhat] in the public and I'm glad we're not in it as much as other people are."
