Golden Girl: Sally Pearson Wins Gold For Australia and Sets New Hurdles Olympic Record
Sally Pearson is the toast of Australia after winning a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics overnight! The 25-year-old track and field star won the women’s 100m hurdles final and set a new Olympic record with her 12.35 seconds time. She just beat US Olympian — and defending champion — Dawn Harper’s time of 12.37 seconds. After realising she’d won the race and had a new Olympic record to her name, Sally let her emotion out and fell to her knees on the track. She then wrapped herself in an Australian flag and met with her coach, Sharon Hannan. Lots of Aussies have taken to Twitter to praise Sally for winning Australia’s fourth gold medal in the London Olympics, including athletes Libby Trickett and Layne Beachley.
