Louise Roe may not be a household name in Australia yet, but once you tune into her show Plain Jane it’s impossible to not wish she was your new best friend. It’s a fun, girly makeover show that sees British-born (and now LA-based) Louise act as fairy godmother to wallflower types, but it’s not just their wardrobes that get transformed — Louise’s work isn’t done until her Plain Janes feel sexy on the inside, too, and are ready to go on “blind dates” with the loves of their lives (you know, the guy friend who has been only a friend for six years too long). Plain Jane makes its Australian debut on MTV, Monday Feb. 7 at 8:30pm so we interviewed Louise to find out a little bit more about her and the show.
What drew you to hosting Plain Jane?
Three things really — number one: the fashion element, I love a makeover! Number two — the fact that the tone of the show is fun and allows me to have a laugh with each girl each episode, and lastly, the fact that I believe we’re genuinely doing some good. The message is very positive, very genuine, we’re helping women gain a sense of confidence about themselves.
You get the girls to make the first move on the guys they like on the show. Do you ever do that?
Yes absolutely! It’s good to just strike up a conversation or buy the guy a drink, as long as you’re not being aggressive about it. There are clever ways to make the first move without him really realising so that he thinks he was always in control. We love a bit of trickery us chicks!

Do you check in on the girls you’ve made over after the show?
Yes and in fact there’s a mini-epilogue at the end where you can find out what happened. They all wrote me letters afterwards describing what the experience had done for them, which meant an enormous amount to me, it really did.
Is there a celebrity you’d love to make over?
Oh Ke$ha! Love her music but can’t stand the way she dresses!
Stay tuned for Part 2 of our interview with Louise!
Plain Jane starts on Monday, Feb. 7 at 8:30pm on MTV.
