Kate Hits The Sand — In Heels! — After a Morning at Bear Cottage
After taking in the impressive skills of some of Australia's best farmers at the 2014 Royal Easter Show yesterday, Kate Middleton showed off some skills of her own: running on soft sand in heels! The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William were on Day 12 of their Royal Tour across New Zealand and Australia, and this time turned their attention to Sydney's North. They paid a visit to children's hospice Bear Cottage on Manly's eastern hill, before driving down along the promenade to their day's final destination at North Steyne beach. There, they watched on as Nippers and surf lifesavers demonstrated their work, and Kate spent a long time chatting very animatedly to local lifeguard Shannon Job.
Prince William spent most of his time time greeting the thousands of people lined along the sand, while Kate picked up an easy jog in her heels to get to the firing pistol for the lifesavers' demo race. The couple was presented with a personalised surfboard by Manly mayor Jean Hay while Prime Minister Tony Abbott looked on; while the group was chatting and Kate mentioned that they'd all like to return to Manly to test the surfboard out because they "all love the water".
Today, the couple are expected to head to Brisbane to visit RAAF airbase Amberley, before heading to a reception at the Brisbane Convention Centre. We'll keep you posted, but for now check out the pictures of Kate and William in Manly yesterday!
