Jan Stephenson was the second contestant eliminated from Dancing With the Stars on Sunday night following Nathan Bracken’s departure last week. The professional golfer scored 18 for her samba and was in the bottom two with Lara Bingle, but her dance score, combined with the audience vote, meant it was her time to leave the competition. Now she’s spoken out about how she’s disappointed and “shocked” that she didn’t get more votes from the public. She said, “I saw how much Australia supported Brynne and I thought surely they will support me, I am Australian . . . I don’t want to criticise other people, but they [the voters] are behind Americans and not Australians.” There’s no denying the outpour of support for Brynne Edelsten following the judges’ harsh comments in week one, but does that have anything to do with her being an American? (Interestingly, Jan has spent most of her career living in the US.) Furthermore, Jan has accused DWTS of being a “popularity competition” instead of about the dancing. Do you agree with Jan?
