Farewell, Rafa: World No. 1 Bows Out of the Australian Open
Anyone who tuned into the all-Spanish quarter final of the Australian Open last night between Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer would know that it was painful to watch Nadal suffer through the match. The devastating result saw Nadal lose in straight sets to his friend and David Cup teammate, and it also ended “Rafa Slam”, aka his dream of winning all four grand slam tournaments in one year. A hamstring injury meant the World No. 1 was off his A-game but he was determined to finish the match and tried to steer talk away from the issue, saying he planned to “accept, keep working, try my best in the next tournament — that’s what I can do.” Tonight will see Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic hit the court for another quarter final (with Bella’s new BFF Pat Rafter in the commentators’ box) but for now we want to farewell Rafa with a gallery of his time at the Aussie Open, including some shirtless moments (yeah, there were a few) and his match last night.
