Reese Witherspoon addressed her recent arrest for disorderly conduct during a stop by Good Morning America today in NYC, where she was promoting her new movie, Mud. ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Reese about her disorderly conduct charge and her husband Jim Toth's for DUI.
Reese spoke with remorse about the arrest, referring to it as "one of those nights." She said, "We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. We know better and we shouldn't have done that." Reese went on to explain her reaction further saying, "I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked. I told him I was pregnant. I'm not pregnant. I said all kinds of crazy things."
Reese was also apologetic for her reaction to law enforcement officials, which she expressed, saying, "I was so disrespectful to him. I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better. It's just unacceptable." She also added a lighthearted joke as to the possible reason for handling the situation the way she did, placing the blame on her acting career. She said, "I played a lawyer in a movie so many times I think I am a lawyer, and, clearly, I'm not a lawyer because I got arrested." Apart from today's interview, Reese will revisit the incident again later this month, as her court appearance is scheduled for May 22 in Atlanta.
