While Blake Garvey and Louise Pillidge probably feel like they've had a massive weight lifted off their shoulders now their relationship is public knowledge, spare a thought for Sam Frost, the woman Blake proposed to on the series finale of The Bachelor. For the past couple of weeks, as she's made public appearances, Sam has been quizzed about the Blake and Louise rumours as they picked up steam, but she admitted that she was in the dark about the whole thing. At an event in Sydney last Tuesday night, Sam told the Daily Mail, "I hope it's not true . . . Until the day they actually leave together as a couple, then I'll deal with it then, but I'm still kind of hoping that it's just rumours." Then on Friday afternoon, as the news broke, Sam told Who, "I just think that both of them should show me the decency and respect to let me know. I shouldn't have to read about it in the headlines." It turns out Sam discovered the truth, along with the rest of Australia, when she scrolled through her Twitter feed, and now she has to deal with the romance between her one-time fiancé and one-time friend playing out in a very public way.
Sam said several times last week that she had reached out to both Blake and Louise for answers, but that her texts didn't get responses. According to Louise in the current issue of Woman's Day, which features an exclusive interview with the no-longer-secret couple, "I got one text from her asking why I hadn't been in touch but out of respect I didn't reply. I had to come here and see Blake before I spoke to her. It's delicate."
While Blake and Louise anticipate the nation won't be in support of their relationship, that's something Sam doesn't have to worry about. Her fellow bachelorettes have her back, and she's been spending lots of time with her Melbourne-based friends from the show like Chantal Hryniewski, Zoe O'Brien and Laurina Fleure. The four girls stepped out on Saturday night for the Red Ball charity event, and Laurina told news.com.au that she actually has no problem with Blake and Louise being together: "It's sh*t how it happened! There is nothing you can say to excuse that, but Blake had a lot of people in his ear, and he was busy trying to make everyone happy, except himself. I'm actually happy for Blake and Louise. They've had a rough trot. I hope they will be well received." Still, in true "sisters before misters" style, Laurina believes Sam is better off without Blake anyway, saying, "We are here to support Sam. But she doesn't need words of sympathy. She is better off without him. Sam will do very well in life and love, and she doesn't need Blake for that."
Sam is currently in Brisbane catching up with the show's runner-up, Lisa Hyde, and Diana Dinu, better known as "Princess Diana" from the series.
