Shawn Johnson is welcoming a sweet new addition to her family soon. The Olympic gold medalist announced via Instagram on April 4 that she and her husband, NFL player Andrew East, are expecting their first child a year-and-a-half after opening up about suffering a miscarriage. "@theeastbaby ... we cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world and shower you with love," the 27-year-old captioned a photo. "@andrewdeast WE DID IT!"
Shawn and Andrew have been married since 2016, and regularly chronicle their adventures with each other on YouTube. In 2017, the couple shared a heartbreaking video that shows Shawn finding out within hours of discovering she was pregnant that she had miscarried. "We feel like a lot of people go through this, so we wanted to share it," they explained to fans at the start of the video. Now, over a year later, the couple has shared a brand-new YouTube video detailing their pregnancy journey so far.
"Someone asked me the other day, is it hard trying after we had a miscarriage? I've never really voiced any hesitation with trying again, but yeah, I'm absolutely terrified," Shawn says in the 10-minute video. "It's natural for anybody who's experienced pain or loss to guard their heart when things happen again. I can naturally feel that my heart is just guarding itself. Because I don't want to go through that again."
She continued: "I was so new and [naïve] to the situation that it was just raw emotion. I wasn't . . . guarding myself at all from the what-ifs, I was just all in. I'm obviously all in now, but I hope I'm able to let that guard down a little bit." Hear more of what the couple had to say about their good news in the video below.
