Tasmania's Melanie and James Maddock Eliminated From My Kitchen Rules After Losing to Kane and Lee

Tasmania's Mel and James Say Goodbye to My Kitchen Rules

Tasmanian My Kitchen Rules contestants Melanie and James Maddock hung up their aprons on the show last night, after being defeated by Melbourne’s Kane Lillywhite and Lee Chan in the sudden death cook-off. They were eliminated after their three-course meal — quail with mushroom entrée, fish stew main and chocolate fondant dessert — failed to live up to Kane and Lee’s Asian-inspired menu, which consisted of Korean beef tartare entrée, Hainanese chicken main and black sticky rice pudding dessert. Mel and James scored 35 out of 60, while Kane and Lee earned an impressive 48 points, with judge Pete Evans calling their menu “by far, the best three-course menu we have seen in this competition so far.”

Mel’s time on the show was marked by controversy after her harsh criticism in the first instant restaurant round. She didn’t exactly endear herself to fans — some people set up anti-Mel online groups and she even received death threats — and tended to play it safe in cooking challenges. However after their elimination she tried to have a positive attitude and said in the package, “It’s sad to be eliminated at this stage of the competition. It’s been a huge adventure and something I will remember forever. I hope we’ve made Tasmania proud.”
