It seems like Lara Bingle and Haley Bracken have a lot in common: they’re both gorgeous blondes with a cricket connection, and both are contenders for winning this year’s series of Dancing With the Stars. While it’s natural for contestants to have a competitive streak when there’s a mirror ball trophy at stake and the chance to make a big contribution to a charity of their choice, Today Tonight has reported on a deeper rivalry between Lara and Haley. In the rehearsal package before the girls took to the floor, Haley and Samantha Armytage talked about how Lara was unable to attend some rehearsals because she was unwell. After their routine to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” judge Todd McKenney said to Lara, “I don’t care whether you’re sick, you turn up, love.” Lara explained that she didn’t want to let the girls down and that she put in extra rehearsal hours to make up for the time she missed, but in the end the boys still had a stronger dance and won the challenge. Interestingly, Lara and Haley also both scored the same amount of points on the night and tied for second place behind Irish crooner Damien Leith.
There’s no doubt that playing up a rivalry between the two beauties is going to generate even more buzz about the high-rating program (especially now that controversy magnet Brynne Edelsten is out of the competition). Does it make you want to tune in to Dancing With the Stars or does it seem like it has been blown out of proportion for ratings?
