The Hollywood Foreign Press hasn't made things easy for us Aussies. Just ask Toni Collette. The Sydney lass has been recognised for her portrayal of a women with dissociative identity disorder in United States of Tara, and, as with fellow nominee Simon Baker, she's got a fight on her hands.
On merit alone, the gong should be Toni's. Even non-fans of Tara can attest that the series is a showcase for the actress to show off her considerable talents. Unfortunately, she's up against Tina Fey (30 Rock). Granted, Toni managed to snatch the Emmy out of Tina's hands in 2009, but Tina is the Globes' darling, having taken out the category in 2009 and 2008, and the Hollywood Foreign Press aren't exactly averse to triple winners (SJP for SATC anyone?). Edie Falco for her sarcastic and dry Nurse Jackie and Lea Michele (Glee) are outside chances, while Courteney Cox (Cougar Town) is clearly there to make up the numbers.
This is Toni's fourth Golden Globe nomination, her latest of which was for Little Miss Sunshine in 2007.
